What this site is
Magnanimous (magnanimo.us) is a free, independent guide to generosity — giving money well, sharing food, everyday kindness, and the older idea of magnanimity. It's written for ordinary people in the United States who want to do some good and would like the facts straight before they do.
The site currently has 20 in-depth guides across four sections, citing 125 distinct source URLs from 85 publishers. Every page was last reviewed in October 2026.
Editorial standards
- Every number has a link. Statistics, dates, dollar figures and study findings are linked inline to the original source and repeated in each page's Sources list. If we can't find a source, the claim doesn't run.
- Primary sources first. We prefer the IRS over a blog about the IRS, the original study over a write-up of it, and the food bank's own list over a listicle.
- No invented examples. Stories about real people and events are drawn from documented accounts and cited. Where a story is disputed, we say so.
- No "best charity" lists of our own. We explain how to evaluate organizations and point to independent evaluators such as Charity Navigator, Candid and GiveWell, attributing any rating to the group that issued it.
- Not advice. Pages about taxes, tips and workplace programs are general information. Your situation may differ; confirm with IRS.gov, your employer or a professional.
- Dated and maintained. Each guide shows when it was updated. Data with a reporting year says which year it covers.
Who's behind it
Magnanimous is part of the allthingsN network, a small studio that publishes free apps, tools and guides. Where a sister product is genuinely useful for the task a guide describes — for example, PantryRx for planning meals you cook for others, or the free Servicehours volunteer log — we link to it and say what it is. Those links are never paid placements for outside companies, and no charity pays to appear on this site.
Corrections
If something is wrong, out of date, or a link has rotted, we want to know. Corrections are made in place and the page's updated date changes. See sources and methodology for the full list of what we cite.
